US helps Vietnamese enterprises develop sustainable supply chains

Addressing a conference in Hanoi on Friday, Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that once the new free trade agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) officially take effect, they will create great advantages for Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the global value chain. But, he warned of many risks and challenges ahead given the global economy affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I recommend Vietnamese firms to seek new opportunities amid the changes taking place in supply chains, reach overseas markets, and access advanced technologies. Competent public agencies and sectors should act quickly to support enterprises in seizing opportunities and developing sustainable value chains, contributing to boosting economic growth,” Minister Dung said.

Director of the USAID Office in Vietnam, Michael Greene, said the US has closely worked with Vietnam in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. The US government pledged 9.5 million USD through USAID to help Vietnam cope with COVID-19 and rescue small and medium enterprises.
