Foreign investment situation in the first 9 months of 2018
According to report of the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) - Ministry of Planning and Investment, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first 9 months of 2018, there were 2,182 newly-registered projects with capital reached US$ 14.1 billion, equal to 97% with the same period of last year, the additional registered capital reached US$ 5.5 billion, equal to 82.1% with the same period of last year.
By sectors: The processing, manufacturing sector continues to rank 1stwith the total registered investment capital of US$ 11.3 billion, accounting for 44.6% of the registered capital, The real estate sector ranked 2nd with US$ 5.8 billion, accounting for 23% of the registered capital, andThe Wholesale, retail, repair sectorranked 3rdwith US$ 2.1 billion, accounting for 8.3% of the registered capital.
By partners: There were104 countries and territories investing in the first 9 months of 2018, Japan retained its position as Viet Nam’s leading source of FDI withUS$ 7 billion, accounting for 28%; followed by the Republic of Korea with aboutUS$ 5.6 billion, accounting for 22.4%; and Singapore with US$ 3.6billion, accounting for 14.4%.
By areas:Among 59 localities, the capital city Ha Noi lured the largest FDI in the 9 month period, with $ 5.8 billion, accounting for 22.9% of the total FDI registered in the country. HO Chi Minh city and Ba Ria Vung Tau were the runners-up with $4.2 billion or 16.6% and $ 2.1 billion or 8.5%, respectively.

There were 19 countries and territories investing into Central Vietnamin the first 9 months of 2018, led by the Republic of Koreawith 16 new projects and total registered investment capital of US$ 422.18million (accounting for 65.91%), the second was Japan with the total registered investment capital of US$ 119.33 million and the third was Germany with the total registered investment capital of US$ 40 million.

In the first 9 months of 2018, The processing and manufacturingsector retained its position as Central region’s leading source of FDI with 14 new projects and registered investment capital of US$ 75.5million, accounting for 37.68% of total registered capital, the warehouse transportation sector ranked 2nd with 3 new projects and registered investment capital of US$ 50.35 million, accounting for 25.12% of total registered capital and the production and distribution of electric, gas, water stood at the third.

From 1988 to 9.2018, up to now this region has attracted 1,342 FDI projects with total registered capital of over US$ 23.68 billion, accounting for 5.04% of the number of projects and 7.09% of the registered capital as compared with the whole country. Among them, Central Key Economic Zone has attracted 1,028 projects with total registered capital of over US$ 16.71 billion (70.57% of the whole region).
