Foreign investment situation in the first 4 months of 2018
According to report of the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) - Ministry of Planning and Investment, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first 4 months of 2018, there were 883 newly-registered projects with capital reached US$ 3.55 billion, equal to 76.1% with the same period of last year, the additional registered capital reached US$ 2.24 billion, equal to 51.5% with the same period of last year.
By sectors: The processing, manufacturing sector continues to rank 1stwith the total registered investment capital of US$ 4.52 billion, accounting for 56.1% of the registered capital, The real estate sector ranked 2nd with US$ 807.5million, accounting for 10% of the registered capital, andThe Wholesale, retail, repair sectorranked 3rdwith US$ 779million, accounting for 9.7% of the registered capital.
By partners: There were82 countries and territories investing in the first 4 months of 2018,the Republic of Korea retained its position as Viet Nam’s leading source of FDI withUS$ 2.32 billion, accounting for 28.7%; followed by Japan with aboutUS$ 1.29 billion, accounting for 16%; and Singapore with US$ 808 million, accounting for 10%.
By areas:Among 53 localities, Ho Chi Minh City lured the largest FDI in the four month period, with $ 1.93 billion, accounting for 23.8% of the total FDI registered in the country. The northern port city of Hai Phong and the capital city were the runners-up with $1.03 billion or 12.8% and $ 746 million or 9.25%, respectively.

In the first 4 months of 2018, 08/13provinces in Central Vietnam have attracted 42 new projects with the registered capital of over US$ 200.4million, equal to84% of the projects and 86.22 of the registered capital compared with the same period of last year.

There were 13 countries and territories investing into Central Vietnamin the first 4 months of 2018, led by Korea with 16 new projects and total registered investment capital of US$ 95.69million (accounting for 47.75%), the second was Japan with the total registered investment capital of US$ 80.38 million and the third was Germany with the total registered investment capital of US$ 14.55 million.

In the first 4 months of 2018, The processing and manufacturingsector retained its position as Central region’s leading source of FDI with 14 new projects and registered investment capital of US$ 75.5million, accounting for 37.68% of total registered capital, the warehouse transportation sector ranked 2nd with 3 new projects and registered investment capital of US$ 50.35 million, accounting for 25.12% of total registered capital and the production and distribution of electric, gas, water stood at the third.
