Foreign investment situation in the first 3 months of 2020
According to report of the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) - Ministry of Planning and Investment, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first 3 months of 2020, there were758newly-registered projects with capital reached US$ 5.5 billion, increase to 44.8% with the same period of last year, the additional registered capital reached US$ 1.07 billion, equal to 82% with the same period of last year.
By sectors: The production and distribution of electric, gas, water sector ranked 1stwith the total registered investment capital of US$ 4 billion, accounting for 47.5% of the registered capital, The processing, manufacturing sector ranked 2nd with US$ 2.72 billion, accounting for 31.9% of the registered capital, Next are the wholesale, retail business, real estate business sector ranked 3rd with US$ 682million and US$ 264 million.
By partners: There were87 countries and territories investing in the first 3 months of 2020, Singaporeleading source of FDI with US$ 4.54 billion, accounting for 53.1%; followed by the Japan with aboutUS$ 846.7 billion, accounting for 9.9%; and China with US$ 815.6billion, accounting for 9.3%.
By areas:Among 55 localities, Bac Lieu lured the largest FDI in the first 3 months of 2020, with 01 large project of US$ 4 billion, accounting for 46.8% of the total FDI registered in the country.Ho Chi Minh city and Tay Ninh were the runners-up with over US$1 billion or 12.3% and US$ 506.8 million or 6%, respectively.

There were 14 countries and territories investing into Central Vietnamin the first 3 months of 2020, led by the South Koreawith 13 new projects and total registered investment capital of US$ 70.36million (accounting for 55.70%), the second was Malaysia with the total registered investment capital of US$ 20 million.
