Review of FDI into Central Vietnam in the first 11 months of 2018

Foreign investment situation in the first 11 months of 2018

According to report of the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) - Ministry of Planning and Investment, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first 11 months of 2018, there were2,714newly-registered projects with capital reached US$ 15.78 billion, equal to 79.7% with the same period of last year, the additional registered capital reached US$ 7.4 billion, equal to 92.6% with the same period of last year.

By sectors: The processing, manufacturing sector continues to rank 1stwith the total registered investment capital of  US$ 14.2 billion, accounting for 46.2% of the registered capital, The real estate  sector ranked 2nd with US$ 6.5 billion,  accounting for 21.3% of the registered capital, andThe Wholesale, retail, repair  sectorranked 3rdwith US$ 3.1 billion, accounting for 10% of the registered capital.

By partners: There were108 countries and territories investing in the first 11 months of 2018, Japan retained its position as Viet Nam’s leading source of FDI withUS$ 8 billion, accounting for 25.9%; followed by the Republic of Korea with aboutUS$ 6.8 billion, accounting for 22.3%;  and Singapore with US$ 4.1billion, accounting for 13.4%.

By areas:Among 59 localities, the capital city Ha Noi lured the largest FDI in the 9 month period, with $ 6.3 billion, accounting for 20.4% of the total FDI registered in the country. HO Chi Minh city and Hai Phong were the runners-up with $5.6 billion or 18.1% and $ 2.49 billion or 8%, respectively.

In the first 11 months of 2018, 11/13provinces in Central Vietnam have attracted 137 new projects with the registered capital of over US$ 640.6million

Quang Nam ranked first (US$ 322.86million of registered capital, accounting for 39.57%), followed byQuang Ngai about US$ 171.34million of registered capital, accounting for 21%, and Da Nang citywith US$ 122.33 million of registered capital, accounting for 14.99%.

There were 21 countries and territories investing into Central Vietnamin the first 11 months of 2018, led by the Republic of Koreawith 16 new projects and total registered investment capital of US$ 424.08million (accounting for 51.98%), the second was Japan with the total registered investment capital of US$ 265.81 million.

In the first 11 months of 2018, The processing and manufacturingsector retained its position as Central region’s leading source of FDI with 47 new projects and registered investment capital of US$ 529.86 million, accounting for 64.94% of total registered capital, the production and distribution of electric, gas, waterranked 2nd with 2 new projects and registered investment capital of US$ 123.75 million, accounting for 15.17% of total registered capital and the warehouse transportation sectorstood at the third.

From 1988 to 11.2018, up to now this region has attracted 1372 FDI projects with total registered capital of over US$ 23.85billion, accounting for 5.07% of  the number of projects and 7.06% of the registered capital as compared with the whole country. Among them, Central Key Economic Zone has attracted 1057 projects with total registered capital of over US$ 16.89 billion (70.79% of the whole region).
