Review of FDI into Central Vietnam in 2019

Foreign investment situation in 2019

According to report of the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) - Ministry of Planning and Investment, foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2019, there were3,883newly-registered projects with capital reached US$ 16.75 billion, equal to 93.2% with the same period of last year, the additional registered capital reached US$ 5.8 billion, equal to 76.4% with the same period of last year.

By sectors: The processing, manufacturing sector continues to rank 1stwith the total registered investment capital of  US$ 24.56 billion, accounting for 64.6% of the registered capital, The real estate  sector ranked 2nd with US$ 3.88 billion,  accounting for 10.2% of the registered capital, andThe Wholesale, retail, repair  sectorranked 3rd.

By partners: There were125 countries and territories investing in 2019, Republic of Korealeading source of FDI withUS$ 7.92 billion, accounting for 20.8%; followed by Hongkong with aboutUS$ 7.87 billion;  and Singapore with US$ 4.5billion, accounting for 11.8%, and Japan, China...

By areas:Among 62 localities, the capital city Ha Noi lured the largest FDI in 2019, with $ 8.45 billion, accounting for 22.2% of the total FDI registered in the country. Ho Chi Minh city were the runners-up with $5.48 billion accounting for 17.2%, followed by Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Bac Ninh... .

In 2019, 10/13provinces in Central Vietnam have attracted 199 new projects with the registered capital of over US$ 1.338,6 million Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Bac Ninh... .

Da Nang ranked first (US$ 86.76million of registered capital, accounting for 28.89%), followed byThua Thien Hueabout US$ 293.45million of registered capital, accounting for 21.92%, and Phu Yenwith US$ 216.75 million of registered capital, accounting for 16.19%.

There were 23 countries and territories investing into Central Vietnamin 2019, led by the Singaporewith 7 new projects and total registered investment capital of US$ 253.81million (accounting for 18.96%), the second was Hongkong with the total registered investment capital of US$ 250.19 million.

In 2019, The processing and manufacturingsector retained its position as Central region’s leading source of FDI with 37 new projects and registered investment capital of US$ 773.65 million, accounting for 57.79% of total registered capital, the production and distribution of electric, gas, waterranked 2nd with 4 new projects and registered investment capital of US$ 384.75 million, accounting for 28.74% of total registered capital.

From 1988 to 2019, up to now this region has attracted 1,591 FDI projects with total registered capital of over US$ 25.58billion, accounting for 5.16% of  the number of projects and 7.05% of the registered capital as compared with the whole country. Among them, Central Key Economic Zone has attracted 1,264 projects with total registered capital of over US$ 18.25 billion (71.37% of the whole region).
