Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh said the Government would help the deep-sea fishing industry build a high-capacity fleet of fishing boats.

At a working session with provincial authorities on Saturday, Ninh also instructed the city to continue taking measures to stabilise the macro-economy, tackle difficulties for business production, restructure enterprises, promote poverty reduction work and increase the construction of new rural areas.

Chairman of the municipal People's Council Tran Tho said the city would strive to fulfill its 2014 target and take measures to develop the city.

Focus would also be made on poverty reduction, business restructure and building new rural areas, he said.

In the first six months of the year, the city recorded stable growth, particularly in the sectors of industry, tourism, trade, export and agricultural production.

It also recorded a GDP increase of 9.2 per cent compared to the same period of last year.

At a meeting with local authorities and fishermen last Friday, Ninh said the Government would help the deep-sea fishing industry build a high-capacity fleet of fishing boats.

Under a draft Government decree on aquatic production, new funding and policy mechanisms would be developed to help fishermen build steel fishing vessels and upgrade timber boats in coastal localities.

He said the Party and State had a policy to develop the marine-based economy during the 2020-30 period.

Deputy PM Ninh urged authorities in coastal provinces to simplify conditions for fishermen to access State loans to build metal and wooden deep-sea fishing boats.

He also reminded them to improve infrastructure for fishing ports and anchorages as well as maritime logistics services to provide fishermen with oil, gas, petrol, food and other essentials.
